Dr Sonali Goonetilleke Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Sonali Goonetilleke is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of mental health disorders for children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 24 years.
Dr Goonetilleke completed training in psychiatry in the West Midlands, UK and qualified as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in 2013.
Qualifications: MBBS, MRCPysch (UK), CCT in child and Adolescent Psychiatry (UK), FRANZCP
Over a 20 year span, Dr Goonetilleke has gained extensive experience providing assessment and treatment of complex mental health presentations by working in the Public and Private Health sector both in the NHS, UK and in Queensland Health including Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS).
Her practice is informed by delivery of evidence-based treatment using trauma informed care, systemic approach and working collaboratively with young people, families, and other stakeholders to achieve best outcomes for young people. She values partnership with young people, their families, and shared decision-making built on strong therapeutic relationships. A strong advocate for mental health awareness, Dr. Goonetilleke actively engages with parents throughout the therapeutic process, empowering them to support their children effectively. Her commitment to each child’s well-being extends beyond therapy sessions, as she strives to foster resilience and coping skills in her young patients.
Dr Gooentilleke is able to support and treat a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety disorders, OCD, mood disorders, PTSD and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and Autism.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Goonetilleke enjoys spending time with her family, and exploring nature and walks with her dog.
