Dr Alan Lackey
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr Alan Lackey is an Advanced Trainee in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry undertaking his final year of specialist training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). He provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management for children, adolescents and adults under consultant psychiatrist supervision.

Alan has worked across a broad range of public mental health services in Queensland and New South Wales, including community child and adolescent mental health, adolescent inpatient and day programs (Jacaranda Place) as well as infant and adult mental health services. His approach will involve careful assessment, collaborative formulation, evidence-based holistic treatment and working closely with families, schools, GPs and other health professionals.

He has interests in neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), mood disorders, trauma-related presentations, family-based interventions and has capacity to provide individual psychodynamic psychotherapy. He values developing a professional and therapeutic relationship with a shared understanding of each person’s difficulties, tailoring treatment to their individual strengths, goals and circumstances, emphasising an understanding of what is meaningful to the individual and empowering choice. His approach to young people is guided by playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and
empathy.

Before specialising in psychiatry, Alan worked for several years in neurosurgery and has an enduring interest in the interface between brain health, neuroscience and mental health. He also has experience in clinical teaching and research.
